    Department of Applied Foreign Languages

    1. Introduction

    The Department of Applied Foreign Languages at Cheng Shiu University applies theoretical and practical instruction and aims to cultivate foreign language specialists in the fields of business and tourism. In order to meet our country’s globalization and development of international trades, the Department comprises two groups: Business English and Tourism English in teaching.

     

    2. Characteristics

    Cultivating students’ competence of using foreign languages accurately and proficiently in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating.
    Cultivating specialists with competence in tourism and business to meet the need of related industries.
    With the advanced-equipped language labs, the Department provides the flexible and multiple-functional learning environment. It aims to encourage students to advance their language abilities and obtain the professional licenses in upgrading their competitiveness in job market.  
    (4) Cultivating the global-vision language elites with professionalism and open mind to learn autonomously.

     

    3. Curriculum

    The design of curriculum focuses on English instruction. Apart from providing intensive training in foreign languages, the curriculum design puts special emphasis on teaching the students business trade, tourism industry and information technology-related professional skills so as to reinforce their foreign languages proficiency and competence. At the same time, the Department promotes students’ creative business skills, economic development and problem-solving related abilities as well as the students’ global vision and skills that will give them outstanding chances on an increasingly competitive job market.

     

     

    4. Faculty

    The faculty of the Department is composed of 23 full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 1 associate professor, 11 assistant professors and 8 instructors. All experienced faculty members have a genuine passion in instructing students and dedicate themselves in academic research.

     

     

    5. Facilities

    The Department has a language learning center, 3 multi-media language labs, a library, a whole-English self-access learning room, and an auditorium. The advanced, fully-computerized facility offers an excellent environment for foreign language learning.
